A new website from The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is part of the VA’s ongoing commitment to support the rehabilitation and recovery of disabled veterans through participation in adaptive sports. The Paralympic Program website provides users with a comprehensive overview of the benefits available to disabled veterans participating in adaptive sports, sports by disability, training allowances, the VA Paralympic Grant Program and resources for caregivers and VA clinical personnel. An important veteran’s benefit is a one-time Disabled Veterans Grant payment of $18,900 toward the purchase of a wheelchair accessible vehicle and/or adaptive equipment.
The website also features a searchable database that connects veterans with sports programs around the country and a “Success Stories” page that highlights individual and their stories of how participating in adaptive sports has positively impacted their lives. Veterans, who participate in adaptive sports at any level, as well as Paralympic competitors, are welcome to submit their stories.
For more information on the program you can visit the website at www.va.gov/adaptivesports
The National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association (NMEDA) is an advocate for mobility and accessibility for drivers with disabilities. If you need help with converting or buying a wheelchair accessible car, truck or van, please consider one of our mobility equipment dealers.
